Given the 356 Speedster market I’m fairly sure this will live on in.

Since it’s a Speedster, It’s probably already being restored.

There is no excuse for not carrying a fire extinguisher in any of these VW-based/derived cars.
Engine fires are common, the cause is usually just the fuel hose coming loose from the carbs or the fuel pump, or fuel filter - and while there are various preventative measures that should keep this from ever happening (eg. safety wiring the hose to the carb and never using a plastic fuel filter in the engine compartment) - one still needs an extinguisher in the vehicle.

Looks to me like the fire was localised to the front of the 356. Maybe a fuel leak or a fire from an electrical short.
As far as an extinguisher goes, we don’t know at this point whether he had one or not. The carpark sprinkler’s did most of the work.

The article says the fire started in the engine, but it may just be an error, since it looks more burned at the front.
